Singapore Sling

Yesterday we left Singapore and Asia and started a new chapter of our trip: AUSTRLIA! We've been excited about it for ages and finally we're here in Cairns. Mind, thats not what this post is dedicated to.. First things first, here's a little taste of Singapore for you!

We left Kuala Lumpur after just a day to have some time in Singapore. We were pretty pleased when we found out that our bus had massage chairs and enjoyed our 5 hour bus ride very much indeed! Going to miss the affordable luxuary of cheap countries.. Singapore is a country, island and a city - all in one. Over the last decades it has (this is what we've been told) changed enormously into the fancy, smooth running country we exprienced. Skyscrapers mixed up with beautiful tropical parks with a warm climate all year round. Difficult not to like the idea of that! It's a great mix of different nations, seemingly mostly influenced by China, Malaysia and England. We were actually staying in a part of town called Little India and had such an Indian flash back! Burning incense, temples, chai and curries.. Just a lot cleaner than the real deal! In Singapore you'll get a fine of several hundre dollars for littering and as a result it's incredibly clean.

We were very excited about visiting the Norwegian Seaman's church in Singapore, famous for it's waffles and homely Norwegian atmosphere. They for sure fullfilled our expectations!! We were treated to cinnamon buns, waffles (with brown cheese that a kind elderly couple bought for us from the norwegian snack shop!! :D) and Friele coffee. A little piece of Norwegian heaven in Singapore! It was a lovely place with a great atmosphere. And the group who worked there were so nice, apparently the youngest staff in all of the Seaman's churches!

First we were met by a little bit of Norwegian humour. Very much appreciated! (Bear in mind it was 33 degrees ;p)

Watch out for the moose!

Happily reunited with brown cheese!

Aaaah. Waffles with brown cheese and coffee. What more does one need!?

Just as we were leaving it started to pour down so we were gived bags to cover up. "Sjømannskirken"!

We stayed in a hostel called Prince of Wales, nice place where we met two lovely English girls called Rachel and Julia. We went out for Singapore Slings at the Raffles together (where they first made Singapore Slings, one of the musts!) and explored the town by night. Did some fancy clubbing, first on the 57th floor (in the building with a boat on it), then in the Swissotel on the 72nd floor. Tallest building in Singapore!! Strange for four backpackers to go from beach parties to real fancy clubs with dresscodes. No problem though after a little round of shopping in one of the extreme number of malls. We all loved "Forever 21", must be our new favorite!

Singapore Slings at Long Bar: Åssi, Sanna, Rachel and Julia! (It cost us about 150kr for one so we shared between us and kept it for about an hour.. Real backpackers!)
Long Bar at Raffles hotel, the place that invented the Singapore Sling!

On the top of Marina Harbour Hotel, faancy club on the 57th floor. The door men kindly decided to ignore our flip flops..

Marina Harbour Hotel, the bar is in the right part of the boat. Awesomeness right there.

    God helg!
